Our Story
Yes, there really is a Scenic Road.
Yes, there really is a Scenic Road.
It all started in 1977 in a small barn along Scenic Road in beautiful Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The barn sat on a working farm owned by Mr. Lapp, whose family had worked the land the Amish way for generations.
Mr. Lapp knew farming and the tools it required. Drawing from his own experience, he designed a wheelbarrow that would withstand the rigors of a real working farm. Next, he designed the first two-wheeled wheelbarrow which offered enhanced stability and added strength for heavy loads. Both of these designs set a new standard for strength, balance, performance and durability — a standard serious wheelbarrow users still count on today.
In 2022, Christ and Nichole Kambesis acquired Scenic Road Manufacturing through their company, PSS Manufacturing Company. Their sons, Samuel Kambesis and Peter Kambesis, are involved through Procurement and Sales. The family shares the same core values that have guided this company from the beginning:
Today, every Scenic Road wheelbarrow is still handcrafted in Denver, Pennsylvania, by skilled craftsmen using premium materials: heavy-gauge American structural steel, UV-stabilized “Ruggedite” HDPE trays and North American hardwood handles. The undercarriages are deliberately overbuilt with strong bracing, structural steel and powder-coated protection so they stand up to decades of hard work.

As a family-owned company, Scenic Road is committed to protecting and growing the legacy that started in that small barn nearly fifty years ago — investing in the people, the products, and the craftsmanship that make Scenic Road different.
